When I arrived at the First Baptist Church, Kirksville, Missouri
on Sept. 20th, the church was so large I had no idea where to find the bride. But all I had to do was follow the
scent of hair spray and cologne. There in this large room was the Bride and her lovely attendants. MaLena gave me a
hug and was actually very calm while everyone else was scurrying around, finishing up the final touches. The men on the other
hand, were pretty much dressed and sitting around. That is the ones that were there. Half the groomsmen were no where
to be found. Cody grinned and said, "yeah, they're late, but on their way". They were like an hour late...had some
kind of horse business. I understood all too well about horse business! I forgave them and got their attention long enough
to get some pictures.
The wedding was beautiful, but couldn't be any other way with such
a lovely, happy couple. They were just beaming as they left the church, bubbles following them everywhere to their carriage
ride. In front on the church was Steve Werkman's gorgeous team of horses, waiting patiently, to take them for a ride
around the brick streets of Kirksville. It was just like they were in Washington DC. While they were enjoying
their carriage ride, guess who got to ride in the decorated, get a way car to the reception? You got it, this
photographer. MaLena's mother, Janet, was behind the wheel. I bet this was a first. We had to laugh. But
we also had the priveldge of cleaning off the windshield and door handles. I thought that was the grooms job!!
Oh well.
Finally we arrived for the reception, at the Moose Lodge.
There awaiting us was great food, music and lots of people. Cody and MaLena could now relax and enjoy themselves. AND
enjoy themselves...they did........
